Have questions about your new awning or canvas cover? Bill's Canvas Shop makes it easy to know how to care for your new products. Unlike other awning companies, we are always here for you. Here are answers to some of the questions we get asked most frequently about awning and canvas care.
Your awning’s fabric should be cleaned regularly before substances such as dirt, roof particles, etc. are allowed to accumulate and become embedded in the fabric.
The fabric can be cleaned without removing it from the frame. Simply brush off any loose dirt or debris and hose down with a clean and mild natural soap in lukewarm water (no more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit). Rinse thoroughly to remove soap. Do not use detergents.
If you have traditional window awnings, do not let water stand in the folds of the fabric when awnings are pulled. You can also protect your investment by using our professional hand cleaning and storing services at Bill's Canvas Shop.
Yes, simply retract the awning for the winter. For extra protection, boots may be made to cover the closed unit, but these are not required.
Bill's Canvas Shop provides both removal and reinstallation of your awnings. In addition, we manufacture and install boots at an additional cost. For added protection, we highly recommend the removal of your valance for the winter. This reduces the amount of wear and tear the valence receives from winds and other environmental conditions.
Depending on the type of unit, simply remove screws from one of the front bar end caps, loosen the fabric locks from the valance (if so equipped), located on both ends of the valance. Next, slide the valance out of the front bar track, removing both the fabric and black PVC. Roll the valance and store in a dry place.
To install in the spring, reverse the steps.
Yes, but please contact us to arrange manufacture and installation and to ensure the fabric has not been discontinued.
All our fabrics are designed to stand up to the elements and resist stains, but awning fabrics have a stiffer finish to help them maintain their shape. This makes them ideal for the golf cart top. Our upholstery fabrics are softer and more comfortable, yet are fade resistant, durable and easy to clean even with bleach. They are a great choice for your golf cart seating.
Our fabrics meet every boating need above and below the deck. We’ve been a top choice for boating enthusiasts for many years because our fabrics are fade and mildew resistant, easy to clean and durable enough to withstand the harsh marine environment.
For above the deck, we recommend Sunbrella marine fabric for biminis, dodgers, enclosures and sail covers. These fabrics are engineered to withstand sun, wind, rain and even saltwater spray. Another option is the Sunbrella Plus, which has a durable polyurethane undercoating for superior water resistance. It’s available in our 13 best-selling marine solid colors in 60-inch widths.
Sunbrella Plus is also ideal for flatter applications where water may collect.
For an elegant look combined with greater water repellency, you may want to consider Sunbrella Supreme. Sunbrella Supreme is constructed by fusing standard Sunbrella marine fabrics as the face to Sunbrella flocking on the reverse side in linen, black or navy. The result is a waterproof fabric with an upscale look.
For below deck, Sunbrella upholstery fabrics are ideal for cushions and other decorative touches in the cockpit and inside the cabin. Sunbrella solids, stripes and jacquards will make your boat as inviting and comfortable as your living room at home. These fabrics are not only soft and beautiful, they are also easy to clean, fast-drying and resistant to mildew, all important qualities for a comfortable cabin.
Due to the nature of Sunbrella fiber, it will not accept dyes. Sunbrella is not dyed in the conventional sense that most of us think of dyeing. In fact, we do not use dyes at all. Highly UV-resistant pigments are mixed in before it even becomes a fiber. Fiber is then cut, baled, blended and spun into yard and woven into fabric. This solution-dyed process is what makes Sunbrella so fade-resistant and bleach cleanable.
Yes, you can apply graphics to Sunbrella awnings and marine fabrics.
